Intense outdoor training sets the stimulus for growth, but actual adaptations occur during recovery. Nutrition is the key driver in this process. Providing your body with proper nutrients at the right times maximizes your training returns.
1. Protein: Essential Building Blocks
Strength training causes micro-tears in muscle fibers. Protein supplies amino acids necessary to repair and rebuild muscle tissue. Aim for approximately 1.6 to 2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily, spread across 3 to 5 meals.
2. Carbohydrates: Refueling Muscle Glycogen
Carbohydrates are the primary fuel source for high-intensity training. Following a session, muscle glycogen stores are depleted. Combining complex carbohydrates (such as oats, brown rice, or sweet potatoes) with quality protein post-workout accelerates recovery.
3. Hydration & Electrolytes
Outdoor training leads to fluid and electrolyte loss through sweat. Even a 2% drop in body water can decrease exercise performance significantly. Stay hydrated throughout the day and replenish fluids immediately after your session.
Practical Post-Workout Tip
Consume a balanced meal within 1 to 2 hours post-workout: for example, quark with fruit and nuts, or a lean protein meal with vegetables and brown rice.
